Brodhead's 2015 Tour the Farms Day set for Saturday, May 9th
To give you and your family a chance to experience a working farm, the Brodhead, Wisconsin, Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring "2015 Tour the Farms Day" on Saturday, May 9th from 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Several Brodhead area farms will be opening their farms to the public on that day.
The days when mom, dad and the kids packed up each weekend and went to visit the grandparents on their small family farm are long gone for most American families. Few city dwellers have ever visited a working farm. Saturday, May 9th, is your chance to change this.
1.) The farm farthest Northeast of Brodhead is Kinkoona Farm located 6 miles from Brodhead. It can be found at 16734 W Dorner Rd, phone 608-897-3983. Kinkoona Farm is home to a permaculture sheep farm that specializes in wool products and provides specialized day camp opportunities throughout the summer. www.baabaashop.com
2.) Not far away while heading back toward Brodhead, you will find Scotch Hill Farm located at 910 S. Scotch Hill Rd, phone 608-897-4288. Here you will find a small milking goat herd, an organic vegetable CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that delivers vegetables weekly to subscribers throughout the growing season and handcrafted soaps made right there on the farm. www.scotchhillfarm.com
3.) 4 miles southwest of Brodhead at Ten Eyck Apple Orchard you will find Opal-icious Honey located just West of the Sugar River on Hwy 11-81. See their honey operation firsthand.
4.) 4 miles south of Opal-icious Honey is Sugar Maple Emu Farm located at W805 Pedee Rd, phone 608-897-8224. The emu farm is home to emus, chickens, Katahdin (hair) sheep, two Akbash and one Maremma livestock guardian dogs. Guided tours of the emu farm will start on the hour and half hour with an entertaining and informative video followed by a trip to the emu pens. No one will be allowed to wander the farm without a guide. Stop by for a fun and informative tour.
